Some people are gay.

This is a fact of reality that will never change as long as there are people.

There are no training manuals, no recruitment centers, no factories; there is just the plain fact of life that some people are gay.

Sexual orientation is innate.

This is a fact of reality that will never change. (This line could go under every heading on this page!)

“Sexual orientation” is misused by the religious right, mis-defined and mis-quoted.

The human mind is oriented for sexual attraction to one sex or another, or both (or none!). That’s how it is. (‘God’ made it that way)  Same-sex attraction is completely natural for a person who is attracted to the same sex.  Same-sex attraction is not a disease, it is not a mental illness, it is just a part of the natural human psychological makeup.

‘Ex-gay’ is short for ‘Still gay’.

“Therapy” done to patients is quackery and it is psychologically damaging; it takes advantage of a person struggling with issues about their innate sexuality, issues thrust upon them by a bigoted society and who are also often dealing with addictions and  other issues.

This has been proven from at least four decades of trial and failure. Not only has the American Psychiatric Association and the American Psychological Association concluded this, but it’s common sense.

Religion is a choice.

Religion is not innate, like eye color or sexual orientation; it is a choice.  A person practicing one religion can change to another religion or stop practicing religion;

Sexual orientation is not a choice; it is innate and cannot be changed.

Christians lie. The church lies. The government lies.

I was deep in the church at one time and I’ve dealt with church people all my life and in my careers; some will lie to promote their hatred towards people they don’t even know. They spread misinformation to dehumanize and demonize a broad group of people that they hate; this practice gives justification to weak-minded persons to commit violence or discriminate against them.

For example, at a little church in Glade, Mississippi in 1972, the pastor preached to us how “negroes were cursed by God” because of the sins of the son of Ham and the curse turned their skin black - wtf! - I was only 14 and I knew that was wrong, wrong, wrong. The Southern Baptist Church is where they breed the fucking K-K-K. 

Religion breeds ignorance and hate as it’s passed down.

Christians have a false sense that the magical Jesus cures them of all faults and endows them with perfect knowledge in all things, so then they think they are psychologists and counsellors, and you-name-it.  We don’t allow persons to practice psychology without a license, yet give free exemption if they claim to speak for ‘God’.

It is NOT O.K. to tell a child that he or she will burn in Hell!

I do not give a damn what the pseudo-psychology cult of the religionists says,

it is C-H-I-L-D  A-B-U-S-E.

For example, Pat Robertson told a caller on his show, who was worried her son “might” be “a homosexshul”, to take her son and, basically, scar his mind for life.  (Look at this man’s history on truthfulness - it ain’t very admirable!)

It is NOT O.K. to tell a child that he or she is an “abomination to god”!

It is NOT O.K. to tell a child that he or she is a sinner.

It is NOT O.K. to perform “rituals” on a kid - that is insanity and it is C-H-I-L-D A-B-U-S-E.

It is NOT O.K. to call a child sissy, faggot, dyke, weak, or whatever else the child abuser may say; some children are ‘different’, and abusing them mentally and/or physically will fuck them up.

It is NOT O.K. to enable or encourage the taunting or harassment of a child.

It is NOT O.K. to TEACH a CHILD to HATE - it is C-H-I-L-D A-B-U-S-E.

May ‘god’ damn anyone who hurts a child.

Gay people are not all the same.

Believing that gay people are all the same is as ridiculous as believing that all heterosexuals are the same. The ridiculous stereotypes are believed by only the most gullible and ignorant people.

‘Gay’ is not a ‘lifestyle’.

The word ‘lifestyle’ is grossly misused; ‘gay’ is an orientation, attraction to the same sex; ‘lifestyle’ is a mode of living.

Gay people have children of their own.

Yep, children who were begotten in the “biblical sense”, children who are loved.

Gay people are not child molesters or predators.  Gay couples who choose to adopt, or who are raising their own biological child, are serious in their commitment.  Gay couples who adopt provide loving, nurturing homes for children who are thrown away by their heterosexual parents.

Gay parents do not cause a child to be gay; heterosexual parents do not cause a child to be ‘straight’.

Gay people are as diverse as any other people.

Gay people are at every status in life, in every culture on earth.

Across every culture and every nation and every race, there are gay people. There just are.

Gay people love.

Gay people have lasting and committed relationships with their partners; they have lasting friendships and family ties.  Gay people want the same things that everybody wants: Love.

Gay people serve their community and their country.

We are teachers, doctors, nurses, lawyers, law enforcement, fire and rescue, and the military.  We build hospitals, plants, schools and roads; we serve your food and your entertainment.  We are everywhere, simply because some people are gay.

Gay people quietly endure discrimination our entire lives, yet we keep on truckin’.

Across all races and all cultures, gay people face this bigotry.

We endure losing our jobs, our homes; we endure name-calling, vandalism, physical violence, but we pick ourselves up, put our heads up and we keep going.  Most of the time we let the bigotry, the attacks, and the discrimination slide, sadly expecting it and not surprised.  The transgressions go mostly unreported for fear of retribution, and most of the ones that are reported are brushed off.
